Why is this topic important?

As more and more scrutiny is placed on proper payments and documentation, it is imperative that we audit and educate providers. As coders, the world of auditing is becoming ever more important. We want to ensure we are auditing with authority, citing correct sources and can back up our findings to be a believable auditor.

What is the presenter's background/expertise on this topic?

As a former surgical scrub tech in the US Navy, Caren has been part of many surgical procedures. Understanding anatomy and years of surgical coding in General, Vascular, Ortho and Dermatology coding allowed her to audit and provide education to physicians for many years. She has had the privilege to speak many times for AAPC at conference as well as webinars, and currently teaches for the VILT program.
