Why is this topic important?

In all of the focus on health equity, this population still faces complications and concerns in their healthcare. Because it often is a small percentage of the population of each unique practice, it is often not something considered until a problem with coding, billing or reimbursement arises and often leaves the patient responsible when insurance issues are identified. This often marginalized population needs to rest assured that they will receive high quality and equitable healthcare.

What is the presenter's background/expertise on this topic?

While Jennifer has many years' experience in coding and billing, the expertise in coding in general helped play a role. However, a tremendous amount of research also went in to preparing the course, seeing problems in our own coding with clients or the challenges that were returned to coding by AR staff and billing issues. There is also significant data on risks and problems this population faces, so was an area of interest.
