Pulmonary Medicine - Office and Procedure Billing Webinar

Learn More About Pulmonary Medical Billing Services

Pulmonary medicine practices are somewhat unique in they have both office services of E&M and testing, but they also have E&M services in the hospital in addition to procedures. Some procedures are done both in the office and in the hospital setting. Each of these billing areas require expertise specific to pulmonary medicine.
Included in their care options are E&M visits, including critical care, bronchoscopy procedure, central lines, thoracentesis and chest tubes, and office testing such as pulmonary function studies. All of these will be discussed as this webinar hopes to give the listener an overview of all things Pulmonary.

Learning Objectives/Agenda

• E/M Visits - What makes pulmonary unique?
• Endoscopy billing – base procedure and RVU differential
• Diagnosis Coding – the art of semantics - showing the sick patient as sick
• Pulmonary function studies – common errors made in their interpretation
• Critical care – just because they are in ICU, doesn’t mean it is a critical care visit

Why is this topic important?

Pulmonary medicine is a subspecialty that sees management of patients more so than some of the other medicine specialties. Management of patient’s co-morbidities leads to higher E/M levels but ONLY if the documentation supports it. This specialty requires billing skills in several areas. Understanding why this coding is specialized and how your practice can stay on track with the physicians for compliant documentation will lead to cleaner claims, less rejections and more timely payment for services.

Who would benefit from this topic?

• Coders
• Billers
• Office Managers
