Please use the search feature in the forum (top right corner). Use terms: CPC-A, Apprentice, CPC-A Job, Entry Level, etc. There are a lot of posts and info about this.
It seems a little odd that you would ask if it is possible to get a job after taking/studying for/passing the CPC. Did you look into it or do any research before taking the course or wanting to take the exam? What made you take the course/exam in the first place?
Actually, yes and I have searched but was seeking fresh information, as many results were older.
The outlook is certainly different now, as compared to when I began my journey to become a Coder, especially when it comes to internship/ externship opportunities which seems to depend so much on where you choose to go to school.
My interest in Medical Coding began years ago, when I was in Medical Records. There was a lot of researching schools and opportunities, balanced with working and responsibilities. Along the way I became a Certified Pharmacy Technician, did that for several years. Then once the timing was right, I enrolled in a grant-based full time Medical Coding program at an in-person school and graduated in 2019. After some successful externships, but not passing the certification exam by a mark, I took a non-coding but related job for a few years. Determined to return to it, I kept my AAPC membership and collected the manuals, tabbing and highlighting almost every year since.
In 2024, I decided to continue the path, taking the AAPC instructor-led CPC class since they're a leader in the industry. I'd previously tried the self-led, but found wanted the interaction, and enjoyed the opportunity to interact with other students again. I'm now a CPC-A as of November, passed the first try this time around.
This time, it's different, without the local school's connections.
I see AAPC just announced a new program that's going to include all these things and looks really great for future coders.
