I have a question regarding how to code a UTI with a patient that didn't know they were pregnant...

Pt comes in the ER for a UTI and during the labwork they find out they are pregnant... doctor doesn't list the UTI as "affecting pregnancy", would you code it as N39.0 with Z33.1 or would you use the O23.9--- code?

You will use the O23.9- and a trimester needs to be added. The provider will need to document the weeks of gestation and you will add a Z3A- code. You always code the pregnancy. The provider will need to document that the condition is NOT affecting the pregnancy before you may code it as incidental
