Has anyone billed this procedure? I have 0184T and am wondering if commercial carriers will pay. Thanks.
 
Hi

TEMS has been done here at MGH for a few years now. We are using the Category III code of 0184T and also find resistance for payment from some insurance carriers.
We appeal with the dictated operative report and other documentation from the surgeon indicating why this approach was performed versus an open approach. Medicare and BCBS of Massachusetts have some specific criteria regarding diagnosis and location of the rectal tumor so we try to keep those in mind when we do appeal.
