I just started doing billing for a hormone clinic. I noticed that a bunch of the claims were getting denied for the Testosterone injections using J1070 stating code was invalid. It is suggested to use code J1071 for the injection but the code states only 1ml. I did a test claim using J1071 and stated the injection was for 30ml, and only got reimbursment for 1ml. Any suggestions would be helpful.

J1070 terminated on 12/31/2014.
J1071 is testosterone cypionate, per 1mg (not one milliliter, unless your formulation is 1mg/ml)

Most testosterone cypionate vials are 100mg/ml or 200mg/ml.

Are you saying you are injecting 30 milliliters of testosterone? People with low testosterone usually inject one or two mls per month (100 to 200 or so mgs).

Also, not knowing what the situation is, can't really comment on who is doing what. We prescribe testosterone injections to our patients, they pick up the vials at the pharmacy, and if they can't inject themselves, they can come to our office and we do the injection for them at no charge.
