I am the coder for a group of anesthesiologists. One of our Drs. has been checking the box on the chart for "sitting position" 00604 on some shoulder surgeries. He says whenever the patient is in sitting position the risk is greatly increased so I should use this code insead of 01630 or some of the other codes used for surgery in the shoulder area. I can't find any documentation to support this. Any help is appreciated.

the code 00604 is NOT for shoulder surgeries take a look at the RVG

00604 is ONLY for Anesthesia services for procedures on the cervical spine and cord when in the sitting position.
