Wiki Sequencing Suicide Attempt with Bipolar Disorder

I am looking for guidance surrounding MS-DRG assignment when a patient is admitted to an acute inpatient hospital for the suicide attempt and then transferred to acute behavioral health. I can't find coding clinics nor Excludes 1 or 2 notes that directs you to code the Bipolar disorder first instead of the Poisoning. Our UR department is stating that in order to get paid the Bipolar disorder needs to be principle diagnosis.

I would also like to know if the depressive disorder should be coded before the suicide attempt

You cannot code F32 and F30 same time..it is Excludes 1 rule. However if doc has Bipolar F30 as first dx code it first. If doc has MDD dx F32 code it first which depends on his notations. What type of suicide was it? Poison, hurt self with gun, step in front of auto, jump off building Etc? Diagnosis codes X71 to X83 could be added but most are not used as first dx code. T14.91 is a suicide dx code to . They probably told you to use one of the F dx codes as primary. If pt. setting if illness applies use dx Z91.5 or R45 blocks of dx codes .
