Wiki SAME CARDIOLOGIST BILLING 99223 AND 99239 ON SAME DATE OF SERVICE FOR PATIENT IN OBSERVATION STATUS AT FACILITY

Patient presents to Emergency Department in the morning for chest pain and was held for observation. The cardiologist I bill for was then consulted and decision was made for left heart cath that same day. The same cardiologist performed the heart cath, which showed no angiographic evidence of obstructive CAD. Ascending aortogram revealed no evidence for aneurysm or dissection. Patient had resolution of chest pain and requested discharge that same day. That same cardiologist performed discharge services. He wants me to bill both 99223 and 99239. Is that OK? (Of note: my cardiologist is not the admitting physician).
