Hello, I have never coded this type of infection? Can someone help please :)

Rhodococcus equii bacteremia and Port-A-Cath infection

T80.218A, B99.9 ?

thank you

Hi,

I would recommend reviewing codes T80.211A and B96.89.

T80.211 lists 'Bloodstream infection due to portacath'. Bacteremia is an infection of the bloodstream, but verify in the documentation that the diagnosis is bacteremia and not sepsis, query the physician if it is unclear.

Code B96.89 is for 'other specified bacterial agents as cause of diseases classified elsewhere', in this case the bacteremia is classified elsewhere.

Hope this helps!
