Hello!

I am coding for the anesthesia for a pediatric pt that is getting flexible bronchoscopy w/BAL and the diagnoses that the surgeon put is P07.25, Z93.0. Pt is over 1 yr old and with the P code it will get denied.

The report also stated that pt has recurring respiratory infections but I am not sure how this should be coded. I am thinking J06.9, but I'm not 100%

Thank you in advance for your advice! :)

J06.9 would be for an upper respiratory infection so would not be correct if there's no documentation of 'upper' - a respiratory infection not further specified would be coded J98.8.

However, given that this patient needs a bronchoscopy, there must be something more going on here than a simple respiratory infection. I think you'll need to share more of the provider's documentation about the patient's condition and the reason for the procedure in order to help you more with this.
