I would like to know if I can use a RE-DO code for replacement of the ascending aorta(aortic dissection more than 16 years ago) I have had some suggestions from MD's and coders but I think I should not use any of them. Please advise.

33530 = Reoperation, coronary artery bypass procedure or valve procedure, more than 1 month after original operation (list separately in addition to code for primary procedure)

32120 = Thoracotomy for postoperative complications

39010 = Mediastinotomy with exploration, drainage, removal of foreign body, or biopsy; transthoracic approach, including either transthoracic or median sternotomy

This time patient will have a re-do median sternotomy and aorto-innominate carotid bypass graft surgery. 35626 plus the redo ??????

Thank you....:)

Per CPT, since 33530 is an add on code, it must have 33400-33496, 33510-33536, or 33863 on the same claim. Since none of these codes apply, you cannot bill the 33530.
