If a hospitalized patient in the MICU or CCU is being billed by the attending physician of record, but a consultation is made to a sub-specialist within the same division can both of them bill on the same day?

For example, if Dr. A is the attending in MICU and bills a patient for critical care or E&M but Dr. A also consults Dr. B who is our local cystic fibrosis expert, or Dr. A also consults Dr. K as our interventional pulmonary consultant, they are all in the same practice group. In such a scenario, it makes sense for both providers to bill the patient even though they are in the same practice. What are your thoughts?

The same may happen in cardiology. Say Dr. K is the CCU attending and bills for his services, but he also needs help from his colleagues in EP or heart failure and consults them. They see the patient the same day and bill for their services. How is that handled.

Thanks.
