Can an MD, who is not a Psychiatrist, use psychotherapy codes? Ex. 90832
 
This code does require that the Clinician indicate the therapeutic intervention utilized (i.e., CBT, solution-focused therapy, etc.).
One must consider the scope of state license as well as clinical practice/education. CPT indicates that this code can be billed by physician or other qualified
health care professional. I work with advanced psychiatric nurses who are eligible to bill this code due to their advanced education/training in psychiatric-mental health nursing.
This then goes back to credentialing, as stated prior.
