Procedure: Removal of pacemaker with replacement same session with addition lead placement
Provider is wanting us to bill 33233 and 33208 together but I feel it should be 33228 and 33216

How would you code?

Per Dr. Z of Z-Health publishing, you would code as a generator removal and pacemaker insertion. Codes for the insertion would depend on what lead was replaced. If the Ventricular lead was replaced, bill 33207.

If a right sided lead, RA or RV is implanted at the time of a gen change you would report the generator removal code 33233 and the pacemaker code 33206 or 33027( depending on which lead is placed)

If the additional lead is the LV lead you would code 33228( RA and RV leads left in) and 33225 for the additonal LV lead.
