Wiki Postop DVT following knee replacement

Patient developed DVT a day after knee joint replacement (same leg). Physician states postoperative DVT. Is this coded as 997.2 Peripheral vascular complication or 996.77 other complication due to internal joint prosthesis.

997.2 along with the appropriate DVT code. The additional text for 97.2 states "Phlebitis or thrombophlebitis during or resulting from a procedure". 996.77 would not be appropriate because the DVTG is probably not a result of the prothesis as much as it is the surgery for the prothesis.
