The patient has a large abscess. The physician has added a suture to the base of the wound to promote healing. The code the facility has chosen represents the total size of the wound 12006 20.1cm-30cm. This section of the CPT 12006 appears to represent the size of the repair rather than the size of the wound. I have queried online but have found no clear direction. In the cases that are given online; the provider is also doing a wound debridement and the direction leans towards coding the debridement over the partial closure.

Any thoughts?

you are correct in stating the 12006 should not be used, you need to use the deridement codes according to the documentation.
