Do robotics cases reimburse more than their standard?

As a physician, you do not get paid any higher for doing a laparoscopic procedure using the daVinci vs using a traditional laparoscope. I am not aware of any insurance carrier reimbursing for S2900 (HCPCs code to indicate robotic equipment was used).
Only the hospital may be reimbursed due to their expense of the specialized equipment.
I have heard clinicians wanting to use -22 on robotic cases. This is incorrect unless the case was actually more complex or complicated for other reasons. Robotic equipment does not justify -22.
The SGO coding advice has an MIS section that addresses this issue.
