I am recently new to billing OBGYN services and I have been given the task of making sure documentation for Ultra sounds is supported. The diagnosis of threatened abortion 640.03 is being used with these U/S, but I need to know what to look for and I'm kind of at a loss. I would think that a threatened abortion would be due to certain STD's like AIDS & Chlamydia. Also, other diseases like Sickle cell anemia (I could be wrong here), and certain injuries; cramping and bleed. If anyone can provide some insight as to what I should be looking for, that would be fantastic. Thank you in advance.
 
640.03 is related to hemorrhage issues only. If the patient is receiving the U/S due to one of the other conditions, then you would code those specific diagnosis.
