I work in a doctors office in the billing and coding department
our nurse practitioner is doing joint injections
CPT code 77002 Fluoroscopic guidance for injection Medicare pays for but
CPT code 73580 Knee, Arthrography radiology supervision and interpretation Medicare denies; provider can't perform

Any suggestions? Are we billing the wrong radiology code? She can't perform the injection without radiology?

What exactly is the NP injecting and for what purpose? 73580 sounds likely incorrect to me - that's a diagnostic procedure usually performed by a radiologist - I haven't seen that performed by a mid-level provider. If the NP is just using imaging as guidance for a therapeutic injection, 75380 is not appropriate.
