I need help on how to code for a newborn that was admitted for 24 hours for phototherapy. We saw the patient in the office that morning and patient was sent to the hospital when in the afternoon once we got the bili results back. They were discharged the next day. We did no bill the insurance for the office visit that morning since we admitted them the same day.

thanks in advance.

Our providers amend their office note to indicate the patient was admitted due to results then charge an Initial Outpatient Care code (99218-99220) for the day of admission and then 99217 for discharge.
