PROCEDURE: Measure compartment pressures, right leg anterior and posterior
compartments.
DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE: Informed consent was obtained. The patient's right
leg was prepped and draped in normal sterile fashion. Area was anesthetized
with plain 1% lidocaine. The needle was attached to the transducer and
subsequently transferred to the syringe, which was placed in the Stryker
compartment pressure instrument. The Stryker mentioned was then calibrated.
I then cannulated the right posterior tibial of the right posterior
compartment, approximately 0.3 cc of normal saline was injected and the
pressure was allowed to equalize. The posterior compartment pressure was
markedly elevated at 108. In similar fashion, the anterior compartment was
then cannulated with a 0.3 cc was injected, and the pressure was lowered to
equalize the anterior compartment was only 25. The patient tolerated the
procedure well.
