We had a patient that had a lesion shaved. The specimen came back as abnormal and additional specimen needed to be sent. The patient came back in and had more of the lesion shaved and the specimen came back as normal. Would you code the additional shaving with the first diagnosis on why the lesion was removed? Or would you just could as a benign lesion?

Hi Ball
I would use the dx R89.1 is possible. However also I'd put first dx why lesion was removed or use the benign lesion dx code from body area..
I hope this info helps you
