One on my office managers wants in writing where it states that unless the code description states laproscopic then it is considered an open procedure. Does anyone know where I can find that information?

I would think that would be found in the body of the report which is what you will be using to determine your code. Not the name of the procedure

Sorry, I should have been more specific. It is regarding one code in particular, we as coders are saying that the 43845 is for an open procedure only and to use the unlisted for the laproscopic. Below is specifically what she asked me.

"Do you have something in writing that says that 43845 is only for open. Ins company is arguing with us and wants us to use for lap."

iI know this is crazy and goes against everything we know, but for this one code, yes it is reported for both open and lap. I believe you can find this info on cms site somewhere when you search bariatric surgery.
