Hello,

Looking for information on correct lab billing. Previewing a claim for cpt 88141 billed with 2 units. Physician sent one specimen. Is it appropriate to bill cpt 88141 in multiple units when only one specimen is received?

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you

It doesn't appear so. MUE is 1 so it should only be 1 unit.

Maybe they are using the wrong code for whatever the extra unit is being reported for. Parenthetical note is as follows:

(Use 88141 in conjunction with 88142-88154, 88164-88167, 88174-88175)
