I bill for a pediatric clinic and we have been using drug code J1050 when billing out depo injections. We haven't had any issues until recently, one payer has come back stating we need to be using J3490 instead because that's what they have matching the NDC. I'm curious if anyone else has come across this issue. J1050 is specifically for the depo drug where as J3490 is for an unclassified drug. Up until now we have had no issues and all other payers seem to be paying the J1050 code with no issue. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Is this just for one specific payor? I would call them directly and ask them why and to provide you with their details in writing so you have something to FU with. J1050 should be sufficient unless they have some updates they can provide to you.
