Patient (18 months) has croup and the provider gives the patient IV dexamethasone orally. What HCPCS do you use J1100 IV/Injection Dexamethasone or J8540 Oral Dexamethasone?
 
So you're saying they used the IV medication but gave it orally? That's a new one to me and I have no idea. If you use the IV code, ins. will want to know why you don't code and injection too. If you use the oral code, are you losing $$ if the IV is more expensive? I guess I'd compare the prices to get that part cleared up and go from there. Good Luck!
