Hello,
I work in an ASC and one of our surgeons performed what he labeled as a endoscopic medial maxillectomy. Our coder coded it as 31255 and 31200. We will not be paid for 31255 because it is an inpatient only code. the CPT 31255 to me reads as an open procedure. the operative report reads as follows: can anyone give me input on the coding of this case? Any help will be appreciated.

And endoscopic medial maxillectomy should be coded using an unlisted code 31299 and equate it to 31225 which is for the OPEN procedure, medial maxillectomy which is an inpatient only procedure. I think you have a typo and you billed 31225. But your surgeon did not do the OPEN code. When open services are performed via endoscope, it should be coded unlisted.
