Does anyone know if insurances are paying for contrast usage, especially in an outpatient setting?
Thanks,
Jim Pawloski, CIRCC

Hi Jim

Yes it pays as long as report states contrast used add HCPCS code A9552. Also add the modifier PI(initial ) or PS( subsequent) to radiology CPT related if patient had a first time MRI body part or if subsequent MRI to compare. Add date on radiology report if pt. had same x ray any previous date or if first time. Also add referring physician who request MRI xray.
I hope this data helps you
