Does anyone know the ICD-10-CM code for "cognitive communication deficit" as a sequela of cerebral infarction? I need a ICD-10-CM code for "cognitive communication deficit" as a sequela of cerebral infarction. The only ICD-10-CM code I could find for "cognitive communication deficit" is R41.841, but this doesn't say anything about being a sequela of cerebral infarction. Would it be better to use ICD-10-CM code I69.318, "other symptoms and signs involving cognitive functions following cerebral infarction" rather than ICD-10-CM code R41.841, "cognitive communication deficit"? Any thoughts on this are appreciated.

I would just use I69.318. The symptom code shouldn't be coded in addition because the code description already encompasses that, and also because there's an excludes1 note on R41.84- instructing that these codes shouldn't be used together with the sequela codes for the same condition.
