Hello everyone-if a patient has hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy and also hypertension would you code it I42.1 and I10 or I42.1 and I119. The report does not state the patient has heart failure.

Thank you!!

Donna

I'd use I10. There's no entry in the Alphabetic Index under 'cardiomyopathy' for 'with hypertension', and per the 'includes' note under I11, this code is for reporting hypertension with conditions coded in the categories I50.- or I51.4-I51.9.
