If the patient was admitted with a recent history of physical assault? Can we assign a Z code for the history of physical abuse or an Injury code?

Was the reason for admission related to an injury from the assault or something related to the assault?

ICD 10 alpha index directs to "maltreatment" (T code). From there it depends on if it is an adult or child; the type (physical, sexual) if known; if confirmed or suspected; then if initial visit, subsequent, or sequela.
If type is not known, looks like T74.91 is for unspecified assault, confirmed for adult with a 7th character needed (A, D, S).

Since it has nothing to do with the reason for admission, I would not code it unless the provider mentioned in their note that the patient has a history of abuse.
