I hope someone can help me with this ortho procedure. My provider removed a section of the tibia and fibula with osteotomies, fixed with an IM rod. I am looking at CPT 27709. Do I need to code the repair? This is the first time I've seen this surgery and I really need some help. Thanks :)

Closure of the incision is included in any procedure.

Did you look at 27715? It states it is for lengthening or shortening.

Here is a description of the service from 2017 Procedural Reference Guide for Coders:

"for shortening, the provider makes two through and through incisions in the tibia. He removes the block of bone and holds the bone with the plate and screws. The provider repeats the same procedure for the fibula."
