Hello all,

Can anyone help with these codes? Which ecode would I use for a patient with an injury from inverting the ankle. It is not a fall so I am not sure if e885.9 is correct. Also I have a patient with a fracture from jumping off a ledge. It also was not a fall. Would I just use E917.9? Lastly, do you assign the e code to the xray, supplies (i.e crutches) or simply the office visit?

Thanks

for inverting ankle look under twisting
for jumping off a ledge look under jumping from high place
attach E code to the office visit & xray, not supplies

My two cents

for the inversion of the ankle, this sounds like a twist or overexertion - something from the E927 category. If this is all you have, I would use E927.9. For the jump from a ledge - I am assuming that this is a "natural" ledge - I would use E987.2. I understand your hestitation since the category description uses the word "fall" - but I would use it as the alpha index directed me there.

Unless someone else has a better suggestion????
