Can someone help me w/ dx for "HALO"? Pt has a HALO (not visual)....:)

What kind of Halo?

There are several types of halo that may be placed ... cranial, pelvic or femoral.

Is this the ONLY diagnosis you have? What's the underlying condition that requires the halo?

I'm with Tessa on this one.......

Seems to me that your documentation is only stating the presence of a HALO, but does indicate why the device may have been placed.

Not really a Dx

Well, the patient having a halo isn't exactly a diagnosis. It's more a status.

Are you coding for the surgeon who placed the halo? Are you in the post-operative period? If yes, then postsurgical state V45.89 is possible.

You might also look at V48.3 or V48.8 to see if one of those fits.

If you are actually adjusting the halo at the visit: V53.7 or V53.90

Is the quadriplegia a result of a trauma? Then look at V54.17

Hope that helps

Thanks for the responses...

Yes, I was coding for the surgeon. It doesn't state if it was trauma or not. I am requesting the pt's medical records so I can code correctly.

Thanks again.
