I need help figuring out when a global period ends.
Example:
Pt had a laminectomy on 12-1-10 and returned on 2-1-11 for an I&D. Both procedures are 90 day global. Does the global start over on 2-1-11?

No I do not believe so. Here is my thought: there is a global for the Laminectomy and dx associated which will be in effect til 3/1/10. Then patient had an I&D, I'm assuming with a different dx, but if not, you would have to append 78 or 79 depeding on the situation and that would NOT start the period all over again.

I code CT surgery and at times the patient has a Below knee amputation but comes back for a revision due to infection and they do a above the knee amputation. The BKA has a 90 day global but it doesn't start over when I bill the 27590 for the AKA.
