Question: Does anyone know what the appropriate CPT code(s) are for a gastric bypass performed for a patient who has GERD? 43846 states that it is performed specifically for morbid obesity, this patient is not morbid obese and had gastric bypass. Thanks!

I'm trying to upload it and am having difficulty, neither the file extension or the size of it looks to be an issue? Any ideas? :(

Assistance still needed:

I'm still hoping for some assistance on this. This question was shared with the American College of Surgeons (ACS) on their coding hotline, but they were not that helpful, I think. They say an open procedure should be coded as unlisted gastric procedure since ?morbid obesity? is in the procedure description (43846). However, ACS also said that because the laparoscopic GBP refers to the open code in the CPT book, there is a rationale for using the unlisted procedure code (43999) if we do an open GPB for reflux.

And to tag on to this, do you use 43644 regardless of primary dx code?
