I know the from the CPT guidelines only RD's and Nutritionists can bill the MNT codes 97802-97804. It also states these services provided by physician or other qualified healthcare provider is to report E/M codes.

If the NP provides the MNT services and bills the E/M code performed in the nutrition department, does the facility need to bill? If so, what rev code/service would they bill.

From the way I understand this I am not sure the facility can bill anything.

If the NP is billing an E&M code, the facility would bill the facility component (e.g. G0463) under revenue code 510 as it would for any other E&M visit.

In the event that the RD or nutritionist provides the MNT service, then in this case the facility would bill the 97802-97804 codes and the facility is paid the full fee - there is no split bill between the professional and facility services in this case since the RD would be a hospital employee. The MNT codes are not part of the OPPS reimbursement and are paid to the hospital according to the physician fee schedule for that service.
