A pregnant patient came in for an evaluation because she was exposed to a person with a confirmed case of Rubella. The patient was completely asymptomatic so there are no symptoms to code. I am using the following codes, however, none are acceptable as a primary diagnosis. Any suggestions for a primary diagnosis?

V73.3-Screening examination for rubella
V22.2-Pregnant state incidental
V01.4-Contact with or exposure to rubella

You cannot use V22.2 unless the provider specifically indicates that the exposure does not affect the pregnancy. I would us 648.93 plus your exposure code. It is not a screening since there is a confirmed exposure.
