HI,

I have a case in which a patient was to have an Essure procedure done. They got pretty far with the hysteroscopic procedure, but had difficulty placing the implants and accessing one of the ovaries, so the physician then proceeded with a laparoscopic tubal ligation w bands. I think I should still bill for the Essure with a 58565 + 53 modifier and then also the 58671 for the tubal.

I am looking for any input or guidance on this - what do you think?

Thanks

Kathleen

Essure Start/STop

Situation: a patient came in for sterilization for Essure CPT 58565. During the visit, the doctor was unsuccessful procedure due to inability to visualize fallopian tube Ostia. Unable to get good distension of uterus due to cervix very dilated naturally. We decided to bill as 58565,53. (Discontinued)

Question: Will the diagnosis remain as V25.2 or is there another diagnosis due to complications of the procedure?
