I know that in the critical care setting, that when a doctor is managing the ecmo circuit daily we can bill code 33961 and get reimbursed for this. Would this same code be appended if the doctor was managing a ventricular assist device (berlin heart) daily?

Don't think you can use 33961

I do not believe you can use 33961 if the patient is on a VAD.

Have you looked at 93950? Not sure this is right, either. This is NOT my area of expertise.

Hope that helps.

For daily VAD management look at code 93750. If you are billing an E&M on the same day, it needs to be a different dx other than the VAD/reason for the VAD as the E&M would require a modifier.
Good luck--Becky
