I saw there are many older threads about the Earwell coding topic and many offices use 21086. I agree with that not being correct to use since the provider is not preparing the Earwell, they are placing it. Our office has historically charged patients out of pocket for this since there is no CPT or HCPCS code a physician can bill for. I'm revisiting this on this forum to see if anyone has any experience with insurance payment and if so, what CPT are you billing (aside from 21086). Or are there others who are charging this as "cosmetic"?

We have a Doctor that decided to to the Earwell and the paperwork he brought on how to bill the Earwell states to bill 21086, 21086-50 or 21086-rt/lt. I have been unconfortable with the wording as we do not prepare and mold the Earwell. If anyone has done it in the past can you please let us know how to bill. We are Pediatrics only not plastic surgery or ENT. Thank You
