We are using the suggested code to bill for removal of styloid process (21499; unlisted musculoskeletal procedure, head), but cannot get reimbursement no matter how much documentation we submit, including research articles as requested within the Special Report. Has anyone had success in getting this procedure paid? Also, our surgeon is billing for tonsillectomy with styloidectomy, but most information states that the tonsils must be removed to get to the styloid process, so it would appear this would be integral to the major procedure. Any thoughts on billing the styloidectomy by itself without the tonsillectomy? We are getting reimbursed for the tonsillectomy at 50% of the contracted amount, but nothing for the unlisted code.

Thanks so much for any information anyone might have!
