What if any E code could you use in this scenario?

Diabetes mellitus from her Whipple procedure.
Pancreatic insufficiency from her Whipple procedure.

it is not due to injury it is a late effect, use the 905-908 code that says late effect from surgery. If you feel an E code is required you can use the one that states no surgical misadventure as the cause.

Tony,

Why are you adding an E-code?
Very often you will find patients with side effects or late effects of certain procedures - think hair loss following radiation and chemotx or lymphedema following mastectomy.
These are not (usually) surgical errors or mismanagement.
pat kidd, cpc, cgsc

Whipple Procedure Also called as pancreaticoduodenectomy, so we have to code 251.3 Postsurgical hypoinsulinemia first, followed by secondary DM code 249.xx and v88.x Acquired absence of pancreas. No need of any E code here..
