A question came up with one of my Urologists regarding coding for a diagnostic laparoscopy-49320 with intra abdominal testis 54692. Surgeon not sure if there is an intra abdominal testis so he does a diagnostic laparoscopy, finds the intra abdominal testis, performs a laparoscopic orchiopexy-54692 and he wants to also code for the diagnostic lap-49320. Does anyone else code these cases?

Thank you in advance for your help.

According to the CPT manual and 3-M as well as SuperCoder, 49320 is a column 2 code for 54692 and is included in the 54692. Unfortunately, the diagnostic laparoscopy turned "therapeutic" and therefore, you would only code the 54692 in this situation.

Hope this helps ;)
