Wiki Diabetes due to Autoimmune Pancreatitis

What would be the correct diagnosis code for diabetes due to autoimmune pancreatitis? There is no entry in the alphabetical index for "autoimmune pancreatitis." However, there is an entry for "autoimmune process" which instructs you to see Diabetes type 1. The provider does not specify type 1 or 2, so type 2 should be coded. The patient also just recently started using insulin, so I don't feel comfortable coding it as type 1 if in fact he really does have type 2.

Another possibility would be E08 (diabetes due to underlying condition), and then add the code for pancreatitis.

If the DM is caused by an underlying condition, you would use E08.x

Autoimmune pancreatitis is a chronic inflammation of the pancreas caused by the body attacking the pancreas.
That said, K86.1 is the best code in this scenario.

According to the ICD-10 guidelines, you would sequence the codes as follows,
K86.1, E08.9, Z79.4
