Need clarification as to proper use of cpt 88162. Source of specimen: Brushing Pancreatic duct. gross description: 20cc clear fluid with brush from which four cytospins and two thinprep slides are prepared and stained with papanicolaou and giemsa stains. Am I wrong? Thought 88162 was improper to use with fluids, washings, brushings. New to this and confused. Please help.

A thinprep NGYN specimen is 88112. 88162 should not be substituted for or added to a thin prep NGYN specimen. Nor should any other cytology charge for that matter.
