Can someone share how to code the icd 10 appropriately for covid test prior to surgery code 87635. We have been using Z20.828 then second code Z20.818. We have been told that Z20.828 cannot be listed first??

As of 1/1/2021, the primary diagnosis should be Z01.812 - Encounter for preprocedural laboratory examination, followed by Z20.822 - Contact with and (suspected) exposure to COVID-19. (Z20.828 was used prior to 1/1/21 but is no longer correct since there is a more specific code available.)
