I read that S1240 can be used to bill the insurance company for the physician portion of collecting the babies cord blood.

We usually charge the patient an out of pocket fee for collecting the CB, this is not sent to the insurance company as their is not a specific code that pertains to this processes that I know of. We normally bill the patient with code 38205 so they see it as a collection. I do not feel this is an appropriate code, one of the patients wants us to bill the insurance company this code and I do not feel comfortable in doing this. I have come across code 59899 unlisted maternity care and delivery with V59.02 and to bill it with medical records numerous times.

Has anyone tried to bill this for CB collection by the physician or is there another new code to reflect this so I may explain to the patient that we cannot bill 38205.
